Decided that Instagram isn't the best fit for your business? No sweat. Unlike in real life, there is a Cancel button: you can permanently delete your Instagram account.
Before deleting remember to back up your account data in case you need it. Please note that the data will be in machine-readable HTML or JSON format, not profile pictures, videos, comments, etc.

How to delete Instagram account on iOS
Step 1: Access your account in Instagram app. Next, tap the menu icon (3 lines) in the upper right corner of the screen.
Step 2: Go to Settings, then select Accounts.
Step 3: Click Delete account.
Instagram will suggest to deactivate instead of delete. Deactivation will hide your account and can be reversed at any time. If you still want to delete your Instagram account permanently, go ahead and tap Delete Account.
Step 3: Confirm deletion.
Instagram will ask you AGAIN... Are you sure that's true?
Step 4: Confirm...re-confirm.
Instagram prolongs what you think is annoying or a good thing to avoid accidental deletion and angry users.
Instagram asks you why you want to delete it. Your answer is required as well as entering your password. Clicking the Remove @username button on this page will permanently delete your account.
Your account will no longer be visible on Instagram, but you have 30 days to review your decision and reactivate it. Then it really, really disappeared.
How to delete an Instagram account on Android
For some reason the native Instagram app on Android currently doesn't allow you to delete an account like it does in the iPhone version. It's weird, but don't worry, just open your browser and follow the instructions below.
How to delete an Instagram account on a computer
If you don't have access to the app on your current phone or you're an Android user, you can also delete your Instagram account from any web browser.
The steps below also work for mobile browsers (e.g. Safari or Chrome on your phone).
Step 1: Go to www.instagram.com and log in to your
account Step 2: Go to the Delete account page.
Step 3: Confirm deletion.
Make sure the username matches the account you want to delete. Otherwise, click Sign Out on the right side of the screen to return to Instagram and sign in to the correct account.
Enter the reason for deleting your Instagram account and enter your password. Tap Remove @username at the bottom to permanently delete your account.
When should you delete your Instagram account?
If you have any doubts about deleting your profile, you should temporarily deactivate your Instagram account instead. Deactivated accounts are easily recovered, while deleted accounts are permanently deleted from the platform (after the 30-day grace period).
For most people I would recommend turning it off, even if you leave it on for months or years. It accomplishes the same thing (no one can find or see your account) but without the risk of regret.
Another option is to upgrade to a private account. Private accounts are still visible in search results, but neither their posts nor publicly visible on your profile. People can request to follow you, but you don't have to approve them. However, existing followers will still be able to see your posts and content.
To switch to a private account, go to Settings in the app, then Privacy, and tap the slider next to Private accounts to the on position.
There are a few specific situations where it makes sense to delete your Instagram account. (Although you can always choose to temporarily deactivate your account because of these.)

Sorry, did you find the second account that the intern opened by mistake last year? Go ahead and delete him (unless he has millions of followers).
